Jane Lubchenco is an environmental scientist and marine ecologist. In 2009, she was appointed by President Obama to serve as the first woman administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Lubchenco resigned her position as NOAA Administrator in late 2012 to return to Oregon State University where she is the Wayne and Gladys Valley Professor of Marine Biology and Distinguished Professor of Zoology. Her research interests include biodiversity, climate change, sustainability science, and the state of the oceans.
