Marine Ecology for Citizen Scientists is a two week course taught by Dr. Helen Hess at COA this summer. This course will provide participants with an overview of the physical and biological features of a unique coastal marine environment, the Gulf of Maine. Participants will develop a familiarity with local intertidal organisms, and we will use a combination of field activities as well as substantial time in the lab for more careful observation and experimentation to learn about the organisms that inhabit the intertidal zone. This two-week course is organized into two main parts, and it is possible to take one, the other, or, ideally, both sessions.
