“Red Pine Diseases and Other Forest Insect Pests” with ANP Natural Resource Manager Judy Hazen-Connery. Learn about the dead and dying red pine trees of MDI visible along Somes Sound, particularly on the side of Norumbega Mt. above Sargeant Drive, around Lower Hadlock Pond, and on Acadia Mt., establishment of long-term monitoring plots to track red pine condition, as well as updates on Hemlock Wooly Adelgid, Emerald Ash Borer, and other unfortunately successful invasive forest insects.
Talk will take place at the Somes-Meynell Wildlife Sanctuary headquarters building on the south shore of Somes Pond, #57 Pretty Marsh Rd, 0.5 miles west of the Somesville fire station. If you see Somes Pond on your right you have gone a little too far. Parking is available up the driveway and along Pretty Marsh Rd. pull-over areas.
