Smelt Survey Training for Western Washington County

June 7, 2015 @ 7:00 pm9:00 pm

Free

Do you want to learn more about smelt and their life cycle?  Do you want to help ensure the future existence of this fishery so everyone will be able to keep eating smelt?  Do you want to help support a healthy wildlife community that depends on smelt as an important prey species in Downeast Maine?

Downeast Salmon Federation is looking for volunteers!  DSF is in its third year of a massive data collection effort to learn about smelt populations in this region. The information volunteers collect will be used to help DSF, Department of Marine Resources, and others, update their data and inform regulations and activity related to this extremely important native fishery.

This is part of DSF’s ongoing 2015 smelt survey, which will extend all the way to the Canadian border.  Other trainings will be held further up the coast in the coming weeks.

This training session on June 4th is for anyone wanting to help collect smelt data in the western Washington County area, from Steuben to the Jonesboro area.  Please spread the word!
